The Sanctuary - Day Four
26.03.2012
Today I made my way to the sanctuary for my first time. We woke up (obviously) and then got ready for a 9am pick up.
When we arrived at the entrance barrier, we walked around the main enclosure in order to get to the main building on the other side. Once we got to the building we headed inside upstairs to put our bags away and our food in the fridge.
Then we headed back outside to start working. First steps were easy, just moving the food from the kitchen to just outside so that it could be prepared for the bears, as in opening the packages, getting rid of any plastics, etc. After about 10 minutes I was redirected to help out with the tour of the bear sanctuary.
About 40 people were arriving at the front barrier so I headed down with two other workers and as they were taken around I was just there to try and keep the whole group together and make sure no-one wandered off where they shouldn't.
Following this I got to see one of the most recently rescued bears that was in quarantine get fed, have its cage cleaned out, and get given fresh water.
We then headed back to the main building where I was reunited with the other two volunteers! They had already been preparing the food, separating them into different groups of fruit, veg, meat, etc. We did this until lunchtime, ate, and then completed the food sorting.
I think it was about 3:15pm that we finished working which gave us some time on the walk back to the front to take photos of the bears.
